Cell Bio As Performed By Tripped Out Dirty Hippies
Oh, to be alive in the ’70s. Apparently this video is from 1971 by Robert Alan Weiss for the Department of Chemistry of Stanford University, and shows some totally free loving hippies acting out protein synthesis as interpretive dance. I personally like the synth organ / bongo drums theme of mRNA binding to the 30s subunit about about 4:36 into the video. Hilarious.

My introductory biology professors at Princeton were in that video. Thanks for putting it up, I hadn’t been able to find it myself!
One of my profs from Small Midwestern College was rumored to be in it. Watching it was an event every year in intro bio. Upperclass students would come back, wearing ballons on their heads, and the intro kids would come in baffled, expecting a regular class day.
Also one of my favorite videos, I watched it first in undergrad bio. When we were in biochem in med school, I spent an afternoon searching for it. Thanks for finding it!
I loved that movie in genetics class!
were they actually boozing at the end? Awesome video. Makes more sense 6years later.
Graham, do you have a disclaimer…there is a post on Kevin MD regarding that.
I sure do! Privacy and Disclaimer.
We watched that in class on the last day of biology core lecture (molecular bio) last quarter. Brilliant!
this f-ing rocks, pardon mon francais….
Thanks for sharing this. It was groovy. Can’t believe it was never shown to biology students at my uber hippy school.
Watching this was definitely my favorite part of biochemistry.
