Peanut Butter Disproves Evolution!
I’ve heard arguments about creationism and intelligent design before, but the Creationists really shouldn’t have this guy arguing for them (unless he’s secretly trying to take down Creationism from within–if so, nice work!). Laughable video:
um.. i’m pretty sure there wasn’t any life in the peanut butter to begin with, therefore there is no life to evolve (THANK GOD)!
All that video did is make me want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich…. yum
The new life in peanut butter was eaten without the eater knowing… I’ve done it many times.
You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Kirk Cameron explain how a banana is the ultimate proof of God’s existence (and therefore the literal interpretation of everything in the Bible – each and every conflicting version of it).
To think that he used to tell his readers in “Tiger Beat” that he was going to be a neurosurgeon after “Growing Pains…”
On the one hand, I don’t think that the conditions inside the typical jar of peanut butter are the same as the conditions that prevailed when life on Earth began. On the other hand, how does he know there’s no new life in his peanut butter? I mean, it’s not like the scientists are saying that you had some heat and water and chemicals and maybe some lightning and *POOF* a lemur! The first organisms to have existed wouldn’t have been visible to the casual observer if embedded in peanut butter.
I’m also skeptical that there were one billion jars of peanut butter sold in 1907.
And lastly, where in the world did he get such unappealing-looking peanut butter? It looks like Cheez-Whiz or something!
Hailing originally from the great state of Kansas, I feel uniquely qualified to comment on evolution/creationism (last I heard the current wisdom in our state is that high school bio textbooks get a sticker on the front that says “Remember: Evolution is just a theory!”, and no, I’m not making this up)
Here’s the way to explain it to your non-science nerd friends who think James Dobson might be right: Pretend that (somehow) you had irrefutable proof that the Yankees wouldn’t win the world series this year. Would that automatically mean that the Red Sox WOULD win (and not any of the dozens of other big league teams)? Of course not.
In other words, let’s say for a minute that the peanut butter guy is right (just work with me here people) and evolution is a bunch of liberal/hippie crap. Does that mean that because evolution has now been disproven, that automatically means that intelligent design is proven?
Two other quick thoughts:
1. everyone should google “The Flying Spaghetti Monster” for a good laugh on this topic.
2. as a first year med student, I am in awe every day by the machinery that makes our body work, and I really think that God probably did “design” it all. It’s just that I think the way he designed it was to allow life to evolve randomly and which ever adaptations worked best would stick around (in other words, Darwin’s theory)….my point is, why is it that science and religion try sometimes to be mutually exclusive? Couldn’t God have just said, “From now on, we use this thing I thought up called evolution!”
First bananas, now peanut butter? I think they’re trying to prove that Elvis Presley was the Intelligent Designer.
Mmm, fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.
to bruce: my belief is that God did create and design it all.
“In the beginning God ..” (Gen 1:1): notice the author of Genesis pre-supposes the existence of God to start with.
And as a MS2 as well, i’m equally amazed at how the machinery in each of the systems in our body work. Well, vet students will prob tell us the same, i’m not sure.
But one thing for sure, we are created in God’s “own image” (Gen 1:27)
in fact, as we read more and more about this debate, we find out there are actually a lot of things that evolutionists and creationists AGREE on, but they know not!
i hope this wouldn’t escalate into a evolution vs creation debate. there are enough resources online to whet your appetite if you are interested.
another quick thought: why are Christians the only people who are debating the atheists or why are the creationists always Christians?
btw, the flying sphag monster is hilarious! the things people would do to prove a point.
