Great, Now I Have to Write a Speech
I’m incredibly thrilled and honored to have been nominated by my graduating classmates to give our Commencement Speech! Thanks for everyone’s support, I’ll do my best to say something profound, and if not that, entertaining.
Anyone have suggestions?

I believe its a high school valedictorian speech…
Anon, that’s hilarious!
I’ll toss in a silly suggestion of my own: Stephen Colbert’s commencement speech. :)

On a serious note, please talk about single-payer and the problems in health care. (I’m a member of PNHP and CaPA, and worked in community health centers for 35 years).
That’s actually the one thing I *won’t* be talking about. I believe my speech is a time to talk about becoming a physician, not any of the other problems in our health care system. (Plus, I only get 5 minutes.)
This appears to be a popular one.

What a honor! I am sure there is something funny about the past 5 years. One big favor to ask. Would you consider posting your speech after you give it. I would love to read it. Sarah
we had a series of inspiration / motivation talks at the end of our years by both local and area docs. I enjoyed one about being non-judgemental and trying to disregard stereotypes during the initial patient encounter. also one about always giving 110% to each pt no matter if you 15 min into your call or 36 hrs in (he graduated before the work rules) and seizing the day. corny, but it stuck with me.
congrats from a PGY1! (medpeds at UMKC)
