Bad Residencies, Please
Dear Residency Programs,
Could you please stop being so damn good? It’s truly quite exhausting ending pretty much every interview day and really liking each of you. I wish I had a boyfriend/partner/whatever that would rule places out so I could cross them off my list, because when it’s between excellent and excellent, making any sort of ranking is damn near impossible.
Yours,
graham
Ahh the paradox of choice. I wish I had your problem. :D
rank by city / location… that 1 day a year you get to go outside better be a good one :-)
Dear Graham… these excellent program are seeking excellent candidates, which clearly include you. Too much choice can be hampering, but it is an enviable position to be in. :)
I wouldn’t mind dating a doctor, but only if you’re leaning towards something procedure-driven; I’ve got lifestyle demands. ;0)
Oi, not fair! You get to look for cute boyfriends on you blog while the rest of us are stuck with Craigslist. ;) lol
P.S.
Oh for the love of cookies, Graham, i’m sure you’ll find love wherever you go. From the little i know you all i can say is that you are– dedicated, considerate, intelligent, humble, FUNNY, CUTE, and open-minded. You’ll find love even if you end up (as we say in Spanish), “en el culo del mundo” (i.e. ‘in the middle of nowhere).
“Before the world finds a place for you, find a place for yourself in the world.”

Yeah, it is kind of funny how all of the programs seem great at the interview day. I have only done a few interviews so far, but I am quickly realizing that either they are all quite good programs, or that you really cannot figure out the weaknesses in a one day visit. But every place has good and bad things about it, so I am sure we will all be fine wherever we end up.
You know what I’m going to say…free home-cooked Indian food whenever you want! How can you pass that up?
IF you’re taking applications for a boyfriend, I can send you my CV. :)
Seriously. Good luck. Who ever gets you is going to be lucky–residency program AND man.
if you really want a bad one, i might be able to recommend a few, but a better way to make a decision when choosing among a lot of good programs is geography. is it near skiing, for example? or surfing?
just don’t date any of your fellow residents. really. trust me. just don’t do it. you know how badly that always turns out in the TV shows? in real life it turns out worse. i have seen it with my own eyes. it’s like driving past a multiple-car collision on the freeway.
