Be Prepared With Tissues
… was the only warning our classmate gave when he just sent this out to our class listserv.
I had no idea I could be so moved to tears within the span of about 2 minutes.

This is a medical weblog--a collection of thoughts about medicine, medical training, and health policy--written by a fifth-year medical student.
I recently stopped blogging, as I graduated from medical school and I'm now a physician in my residency training in New York City. But feel free to read and enjoy!
(To get rid of this thing, just wave your mouse over it. Ta da!
I think I made it to picture 11 before I watered up a bit.
And that’s the main reason I didn’t do peds. Sicks kids just aren’t my thing. Too sad.
Great pictures too.

damn - you got me too.
it is particularly impactful on me as a new father.
interestingly this song has recently been causing some leakage on my part:
“who really cares
who’s willing to try
to save a world
that is destined to die
when i look at the world
it fills me with sorrow
children today
really suffer tomorrow
oh what a shame
such a bad way to live
who is to blame
when we can’t stop living
live, live for life
let live everybody
live life for the children
oh for the children
save the babies
all of the children”

Those pictures were really powerful. What a strong little boy, with an equally strong mother. Thanks for posting.
This brings back some very painful memories watching kids suffer when I did peds in medical school. I’m so impressed with Cyndie and her strength and unwavering devotion to her son. I sometimes think that I just don’t have the best emotional fortitude - the main reason I decided not to become a pediatrician was because I couldn’t handle the deaths of kids.
