GruntDoc on 20/20 Hindsight
How docs can be our own worst enemies. I’d have to agree–it’s a fine line between speaking out when a doctor made an egregious error and realizing that when you’re seeing the person for the first time, in an emergent setting without all the data, it’s more difficult to make the diagnosis.
I’m kind of offended by your attack on smoker’s with the ‘subcutaneous lesions’ picture. My father died with lesions like that from cancer, but not lung cancer (maybe). His diagnoses included non-hodkins lymphoma and melanoma two years after he had surgery and radiation for a tumor in the parotid salivary gland. Any guesses as to which of the three pathologists providing consultation on his case (at different times) were correct?
