Practicing Their Love
Our President, ladies and gents:
bq. At a rally of cheering supporters in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Bush made his usual pitch for limiting “frivolous lawsuits” that he said drive up the cost of health care and run doctors out of business.
But then he added, “We’ve got an issue in America. Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many OB-GYNs aren’t able to practice their love with women all across this country.”
(via another graham)
So, what is your point? That he misspoke? Should he be sued by a predatory tort lawyer the same way physicians are sued for insignificant errors?
Shall we search your blog for grammatical errors or the unintended implications of well-intentioned phrases?
That he said something completely non-sensical. Kind of like he did a couple weeks ago.
While my weblog might have some grammatical errors, I’m not the one running for President of the most powerful country in the world.
Oh, after days and nights of campaigning? On the run without sleep, talking constantly, on the stump…
And no you’re not running for president, you’re just going to have people’s lives in your hands.
I once had a professor in medical school overly critisize a resident’s on-call note for some syntactical miscues and grammatical errors.
I reminded the full professor that the resident was stressed, overworked, and the note was written at 3 AM.
The proctor was adamant.
I then let him know that Norman Mailer — one of the most heralded writers of his generation — was notorious for handing manuscripts to his editors that were rife with errors of every sort.
The medicine professor was silent. I think he understood that he was being petty.
What I find most laughable here is that a grown man, an experienced (retired?) radiologist, picking on a medical student with the very same pettiness he rails against, because the student made a post on his personal weblog on a gaff committed by a public personality that the entire blog world was laughing about.
I suspect this very same good doctor would not have wasted a moment in joining the chorus if Graham had poked fun of Kerry instead, to judge by the bile posted on codeblueblog.
Please. The hypocrisy of it all.
A grown man?
Uh…when do the growth plates close?
You mean Graham’s growth plates are still open?
I’m “picking” on him? Ha!
I think Graham is a pretty smart guy and as such he wants and relishes comments and feedback from both sides and I would be VERY surprised if HE thought I was “picking” on him.
After all, “picking” on him implies I am stronger. And we are talking intellectual muscle here…I don’t think Graham would agree to your concession of his weakness.
Hypocrite?
Well, Brian, I would welcome your true email address and YOUR blog URL address so I can address these issues ( I already have a clue)…
You know, I try to raise hackles on my website because I believe ardently in what I write and I am not really aiming at health care professionals, I’m seeking the average guy’s attention…
I like Graham because he does the same although our opinions are 180 degrees apart…but…who are YOU to paint ME as the bully and him as the 98 pound weakling?
GRAHAM…stand UP for yourself!
I’m right here, standing up for myself fine. I’d continue this, but I haven’t seen any responses to any of my comments on your blog, codeblue.
Like I said in my comments, there are plenty of things to be frustrated with in the health care system, and if you disagree with my suggestions for reform, that’s fine, but at least argue facts.
It’s dishonest to argue that Kerry wants “nationalized health care,” or that Clinton’s plan had anything to do with Canada’s single-payer platform. I’m happy to debate, and enjoy it, but I don’t have time to spend debating someone on things that are simply untrue.
LOL! nice try.
The great thing about having a discussion online is that there’s a written record everyone can refer to.
Graham made one short post about a Bush gaff which has gained widespread coverage.
I thought your reaction to that was childish and needlessly confrontational. Which is what I implied by your “picking” on him. Or, to use the word in your very ironic story, “petty”.
I also suggested that it was not exactly very ingenuous to imply that what you were truly concerned about here was the injustice being done to a tired politician who made an unintentional blunder. Please. You are railing against this because you support the politician in question.
Be honest, if Graham had posted exactly the same story, but Kerry had been the one who slipped up, would you have ranted the way you did? No?
Then lets be forthright about the reasons for it. The only reason why I got myself into the middle of this is that the blatant partisanship these days is really going overboard.
Finally, this is all an incredible waste of time. You clearly feel passionately about the issues. I would suggest a better thing to do is have a civil discussion with him on the many posts that he makes on the issues, instead of “yelling” about what was a joke.
Oh, and Brian is my first name. Is CodeBlue yours? While that would explain a lot, all that is neither here nor there. The only issue here was the acceptability or otherwise of Graham’s joke.
graham sorry we cross posted. I was talking to the good doctor.
