Bye, MovableType
Seeing that the next version of MovableType, the software that runs this blog, is going to cost 70 bucks and will not have any real new features for me, it’s about time we split ways. Last year I donated $50 to Six Apart to support them, but my dissatisfaction has grown recently. The CGI system is just too slow for comments; there’ve been no real updates in months; I was even a star alpha- and beta-tester for Typepad, but I think it’s time I move to WordPress or Drupal. This grad student would rather use a free tool, and one that’s growing new features almost weekly. It was nice while it lasted. It’s not you, it’s me. Really. I hope we can still be friends.
Update: Two things–I realize it’d only be $20 since I’ve donated $50. Still, seems like $20 too much for me right now as a student. (I also run a group weblog as well as multiple links blogs.) Second, if you’ve been using MT for free, you really shouldn’t be whining. It’s a product. By a company. Support Six Apart if you never have.
I’m not too happy about the pricing either, just wanted to point out that if you donated $50 bucks, the new version will only cost you $20.
Seems to me that you could also use the free version (3 weblogs, 1 author):

Read Jay Allen’s take on it. He’s the MT-Blacklist developer, and he’s got a rational explanation for what’s going on that Ben and Mena couldn’t enunciate, apparently.
Dude, the type on this thing is TINY.
How ’bout upping it from 4pt to 12 or something? :-)
