F in Round One
Just finished my first histology quiz, met with a rousing failure.
Upon trying to identify “basal layer epithelium,” I was told by the TA that “you should probably look at the correct slide and try again.”
At least I’m not in this sinking ship alone–my classmates felt pretty unprepared, too. Two weeks left; it’s time to hit the books.l
I’m totally with you. The welfare guide our year produced for the new first years referred to histology as “a steaming pile of wank”. Of course, the president and VP of the medical society were summoned before the dean to have it read back to their faces, but even he realised we’d made a fair point. Subsequently, the syllabus was changed and now incorporates less histology in the earlier years at Oxford.
I wish someone had also referred to pathology as such, because there’s this big ass exam in 11 days. It’s that time in a med student’s life when you realise that had you started studying three months ago you’d still have been cramming. And suddenly, there are eleven days left.
Good luck!
